Our last stop on our way home from the family reunion in Oregon was the little beach community of Mendocino. Located about 10 miles south of Fort Bragg, Mendocino is one of the most enchanting little towns. It is full of several different Bed and Breakfasts all with their own unique flare. Since we had spent most of the day driving (starting in Crescent City, through the Avenue of the Giants, and then cutting across from HWY 101 to HWY 1) we were so excited when we finally reached the coastline again. The small windy road that connected HWY 101 to the 1 literally about killed us! There were sharp cliffs on one side and narrow lanes that we were having to navigate through sharp turns. When we exited the canyon and got our first glimpse of the ocean it was about an hour until sunset with the most amazing fog rolling in off the ocean...the view was incredible!
A few miles north of Fort Bragg.
Rocks off the shore; reminded us of the "Goonies" rocks in Oregon.
After driving south along HWY 1 and through Fort Bragg, we arrived in Mendocino a little after 8pm. Our main goal was to find somewhere to stay and to get our little man to bed. It didn't take long to drive around the majority of town choosing between several B&Bs. We ended up choosing a unique B&B called Blackberry Inn, about a 5 minute drive from the coast. Since we had arrived so late, we basically checked into the hotel, got some food, and put our little guy down for the night. Daxton slept wonderfully, once again, and we are truly convinced that we have an angel baby on our hands!
The gorgeous tree right outside our room.
Blackberry Inn is built around a Western theme (usually not my taste at all, but the rooms weren't decorated in Western styles just the outside.) Our room was very nice and comfy, with a huge jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and gorgeous view.
I loved the flowers surrounding each of the different rooms.
That shade of purple will always remind me of little Mara.
This is Daxton's "Please don't put me back in my car seat!" face.
Gotta love those furrowed eyebrows!
The next morning we slept in, relaxed with a gorgeous view, and then checked out to wander around town. We ended up at a really cute cafe for lunch where Daxton decided to take one of his naps while we ate.
We then decided to check out the coastline. Mendocino has some really fun hiking/biking trails right along the ocean, which are gorgeous. There are lots of different rock structures and tide pools to play in. Unfortunately Daxton slept through most of this, which we decided only gave us more of an excuse to come back to visit again when he's a little older! Dallas was a sweetheart and let me explore while he waited in the car with little Daxton as he slept.
Here are some of my favorite shots from the Mendocino coastline...absolutely beautiful!
Here are the images I captured on my iPhone through Instagram.
Mendocino was the perfect last stop for our summer road trip.
Have I mentioned I love living in California!?
