The next day, Dallas and I ended up sleeping in for most of the morning. Our precious little guy had kept us up for most of the night and we were barely hanging on by a thread when the sun came up. Mom and dad spent the morning shopping along Michigan Avenue to start the day right for Daddy...it was his birthday after all! After sleeping in, we got ready for the next round of adventures in the city.
This is what I don't understand...
How Daxton could be this happy after having been awake from 2-4am?? His mom and dad sure weren't that happy. I guess he was super excited about playing with grandpa.
After lunch we headed down to Navy Pier.
Navy Pier is a huge shopping center that has an amusement park, yummy restaurants, children's museum, movie theatre, and pretty much anything else you can possibly imagine, including a botanical garden filled with palm trees. It is the most visited spot in all of Illinois during the summer. Going on a Tuesday afternoon at the beginning of October proved to be the perfect time to go, since hardly anyone was there.
Goofing off in the shopping center
Who knew we'd be able to find so many palm trees in Chicago!?
Made us feel right at home
The amazing view looking back at the city.
Mom and dad let us have a quick 15 minute date while we were at Navy Pier to ride the Ferris Wheel. It reminded me of our time at the Santa Monica Pier a few years back. I truly am blessed to be married to my best friend. The past few months have proven quite difficult to try and get some alone time together. We love our little man, of course, but I do miss my time with Dallas. Even though it was just a short while, it was wonderful to be reminded of how lucky I am to have married someone so incredible.
Love ya, sweetheart.

Our little man must have sensed when his mommy and daddy had left, because he woke from his nap wanting to be held the second we were out of sight. He probably knew that grandma and grandpa would love the extra snuggle time!
Favorite shot of the day
We figured since Daxton had woken up early from his nap, that he needed to experience his first carousel. It was pretty funny to watch him interact with everything. Obviously he didn't understand what was going on and fixated on the different colors and objects around him. He was seriously cute, though, and I loved being able to capture so many of his different facial expressions.
In serious thought...
Overall he wasn't too impressed, maybe in a year he'll be more into it!
After the carousel ride, I fed the little man while mom, dad, and Dallas went to find yummy caramel popcorn. It was seriously the BEST caramel popcorn I have ever tasted and I'm not a huge fan of the stuff. But Garrett's I would seriously consider shipping out to the bay area every once and awhile! After feeding the little man, we hung out in the botanical gardens eating yummy popcorn and figuring out what we wanted to do the rest of the day.
Typical depiction of "Naughty and Nice"...
Nice for grandpa and giving him lots of snuggles...
Naughty for momma pulling my hair and smiling about it in the process!
