Gastown, Vancouver BC

Dallas and I are on our tail end of family retreats for the week, so I will slowly be posting all the adventures over the next few days.  For now, I'll continue with our quick jaunt to Vancouver last weekend.
After visiting the Capilano Suspension Bridge, we decided to spend the evening exploring Vancouver's historic Gastown.  Named after "Gassy" Jack Deighton, a steamboat captain who opened the city's first saloon in 1867.  Obviously a lot has changed over the past century.  Cobble street corners and funky shops line the blocks now and we were lucky enough to be in town for the International Jazz Festival taking place in the center of it all.  Five Alarm Funk was the closing band and they were incredible!  It was so much fun to be surrounded by hundreds of dancing people all screaming and rocking out to the music...made me feel young again.  After listening to all the live music, we walked the streets, people watched, Dallas bought some interesting street art, and stopped for lots of photo ops.
We slowly made our way along the harbor line to the Pan Pacific Hotel where we ate at the Five Sails Restaurant for dinner.  They had floor to ceiling windows looking out at the bay to watch the sunset.  It was absolutely gorgeous and the perfect way to end such a fun day.  We are totally in love with Vancouver!
