Easter Play Group

I can't believe it's June.
To be honest it scares me to think of how quickly this past year has flown by.  This time last year we were making preparations to move across the country and start our new life in South Florida.  It's insane to see all that has changed in the past year.  One of my greatest fears was that I wouldn't be able to make friends or have the strong support group that I had in California.  And although there've been some growing pains with missing family and friends from out West, I'm happy to say that we are feeling very welcomed and loved in our new area.  Our biggest blessing comes from being a member of a worldwide church, where no matter where you move or how far, there is an immediate network of friends.  We've been blessed to have moved into an incredible Ward family with several children Daxton's age, or close to it, and fun-loving kind women who are becoming dear friends to me.

There are lots of different activities that people get together for, but one of my favorites is the monthly craft play group.  Each month someone plans an activity, story, and craft for the kids to do.  I know Daxton has a blast playing with his friends, but I LOVE the excuse to get together with the girls and hang out as well.  In April Leslie planned an awesome Easter themed story, craft, and then Easter egg hunt for all the kids.  We ended up having it at Joslyn's house since it had the most amazing yard for an Easter Egg hunt.  It was such a fun morning with great people!

The gorgeous house right on the main river canal in Fort Lauderdale...
The kids had so much fun watching all the different boats go by and throwing little rocks and twigs into the river.  They also loved looking for fish.  Joslyn told me that one time they were having a picnic and a manatee surfaced right next to their fence!  How incredible that must have been to see!

We spent the first little bit hanging out and letting the kids play.  Daxton immediately fell in love with all the fun toys and space.  I think it's about time we got him a scooter or bike!  He was in heaven.

Leslie had a fun book for story time, but Daxton was a bit distracted by all the fun things around him to want to sit and listen.  The craft she had for them was super cute.  She had drawn an outline of a bunny for each of the kids.  Then we put glue on the line and had the kids place small marshmallows around the perimeter.  She also had fun googly eyes and a puff ball for the nose.  Needless to say, the kids LOVED it and it was easy enough for all of them to do!
Daxton was being such a stinker that day and didn't want anything to do with me.  Luckily he loves Joslyn, who was also his nursery leader, so he sat on her lap the entire time.  She was such a sweetheart to hold him and help him with his craft.
You know it's a great craft if all the kids are engaged!
While we were finishing up our bunnies, a couple of moms volunteered to hide all the eggs.  We each brought 10 filled plastic eggs for the kids to find.  Than during the egg hunt, the kids knew that they were only allowed to find/keep 10 eggs for themselves.  It was a great way to help keep things even and less chaotic.  You can tell from the pictures below that Daxton had a blast.  He would get so excited every time he saw an egg.  The problem came when on the second one he found fell and cracked open.  Inside he noticed that they were all filled with candy.  It was a bit more difficult to keep him motivated to find more when all he wanted to do was eat the candy from each egg right then!
Such a beautiful and perfect yard for an Easter Egg hunt!
The kids had so much fun and we did as well!
We tried to get a picture of all of them with their baskets, but as you can see, they were all a bit distracted with the candy in front of them!  They were all super sweet with each other, no fighting or stealing eggs and candy.  It was such a fun morning!

Eating all their candy...

Thanks, Leslie, for such a fun activity!  It was a great morning.  Daxton and I had a blast and loved every minute of it.  I wish I would have taken a picture of your cute rice crispy bird nests.  They were so yummy and adorable.  I still can't believe you planned everything while being two weeks away from your due date!!
