Point Reyes National Seashore

Dallas has been working in Carson City during the week and only coming home on the holidays, so we were all very excited when Dallas was able to be home for the three day weekend to celebrate Labor day.
We decided that we wanted to spend the day with family, since they are so darn fun anyway!  My older brother, Erik and his wife and little kids wanted to explore Point Reyes and since Dallas and I had never been there we tagged along for the adventure.  Point Reyes is located north of San Francisco along highway 1.  If you know the bay area well, it is just north of Stinson Beach and Bolinas Lagoon.
It's about an hour drive (without traffic) so we reached our destination just in time for lunch.

Point Reyes is famous for the light house located at it's tip.  It was amazing to listen to the surrounding groups of people where english was hardly heard.
The hike down to the light house is the equivalent to a 30 story building, so you can imagine what I was thinking going down the flight after flight of stairs...holy crap, I'm going to have to come back up these!

Needless to say it was a long hike back up the mountain, but the view was absolutely gorgeous.  During the right season it's a perfect place to whale watch, but we didn't see much but open water.  The kids were so cute on our adventure and were troopers hiking back up.
Dallas loved how my hair was catching the light...yes he had me stop so he could take this picture...he's such a sweetheart!

The trail was lined with gorgeous trees covered in green moss, so we of course had to take some family shots and since Dallas and I don't officially have children, Ellis and Rulon jumped in our picture :)

After we hiked out to the light house, the kids were begging to go play at one of the many beaches in the area.  We ended up going to Drakes beach, which was perfect.  There were not a lot of people, totally clean with no seaweed deposits along the sand, and perfect waves.  We had a blast playing in the water and sand.  Will had his first fist-fulls of sand in the mouth and was extremely cute in the process!

Overall, we had a wonderful day!  We are so blessed to not only live in such a GORGEOUS area, but to also live by such fun family!
We love you guys!!

  3. I'm a little surprised you hadn't been there. Great thing you went on such a perfect weather day! Brittney, Sterling, my sister and I went to see the lighthouse a couple years ago when they were out to visit and you couldn't see the lighthouse!! And we got there just after it closed. It was freezing, the fog was nuts. It was cool, and quite the adventure that day, but I'm glad you caught such a good time.
