Bluefoot Pirate Adventure with the Shumate Family (February 2016)

I remember the very first boat ride Dallas and I took on the Intercoastal waterway in Fort Lauderdale.  It was our anniversary/house hunting weekend in June of 2013.  Before we caught out flight back to San Francisco, we decided to take a river cruise to see the views of all the waterways in Fort Lauderdale.  It was a gorgeous cruise with row after row of beautiful mansions and vegetation.  I also got my first glimpse of the Bluefoot Pirate Adventure that day.  In the distance we were able to watch a pirate ship full of families with children dressed in costume, shooting water cannons and laughing hysterically.  Dallas and I immediately turned to each other and promised we would take Daxton on that pirate ship when we moved to Florida.

Almost three years later, we were super excited when our friends, the Shumate's, asked us if we wanted to join them on a pirate adventure.  We knew Daxton and his buddy Jack would have a blast together so we immediately said yes!

We all met up at the marina in fort lauderdale where the kids got to pick out their costumes, meet our pirate captain, and hear some adventurous tales as we waited for all the passengers to arrive.  Daxton immediately got into character and fell in love with his new sword, eye patch, and bandana.

They also had face painting available, but Dax took one look and refused.  We were fine with that since he probably would have sweat off the pain in a matter of minutes anyway.

Little baby Henry was not the biggest fan of his pirate eye patch!
When we boarded the pirate ship and set sail, all the kids were able to hoist the pirate flag.  Daxton loved being able to pull the rope.

Our pirate ship was more of a pirate cruise since we stayed in the waterways of Fort Lauderdale and not the open ocean.  It made for a very relaxing and fun couple hours.  We had a blast, as usual, with the Shumate's and found many opportunities to burst into laughter.  We sure love them!

Some of the beautiful views along the pirate crusie.

While cruising through the waterways, the kids were able to play limbo to fun music and listen to pirate stories.  When we got out into the Intercoastal waterway a small quick motor boat started circling our pirate ship.  On the small motor boat was a "mean ol' pirate" who wanted to steal our treasure.  The kids were then able to grab a water cannon and take aim at the pirate as he zipped by.  Dax and Jack loved sharing a cannon and laughed hysterically every time they squirted the guy with water.

I LOVE their expressions in the pictures below!

Such a fun time!

The boys had such a great time looking over the side for animals and fish.  They also had a blast pretending they were members of the Imperial army shooting from their Thai fighters...everything seems to circle back to Star Wars.

Shooting their water cannons at the "scurvy scallywag!"

Daxton's facial expression says it all!
They had such a great time!

After a very fun couple of hours, each of the kids earned their own golden treasure (chocolate coins).  Daxton and Jack both had such a great time.  We would definitely love to do the Bluefoot Pirate Adventure again!

Hollywood Studios with Stoker Family (January 2016)

Our fun with the Stoker family continued the following day at Hollywood Studios.  Once again Kate saved us with gloves, hand warmers, and scarves.  That girl is prepared for anything!

I love this crazy family of mine!

We started out our day visiting Star Tours and getting immersed in all things Star Wars.  The kids had a blast watching the Jedi Training and were super excited to see Darth Vader make an appearance.

Our next stop was the Frozen show.  I was super excited because we'd never seen the show before.  We had front row seats and loved every minute of it, especially the snow falling from the ceiling.

We also had a blast checking out Mickey's Dance Party located next to the Rockin' Rollercoaster.  The kids loved being able to meet and dance with all the different characters.

Meeting Chip

These cute little goofballs became fast friends.
Drue made Daxton laugh like crazy with all his silly faces.

Next generation mission companions
Love these sweet boys so much!

Our absolute favorite part of the day though was checking out the Star Wars launch bay.  The kids loved trading with the Jawa, looking at all the cool star wars paraphernalia, and the highlight was meeting Darth Vader!  It was a pure mix of stunned awe and excitement.

Our whole gang with Darth Vader himself

This kid was beyond excited to ride on the speeder.  He talked about it for days after.  I love his excitement and joy.

We also had a blast riding on Toy Story Mania, watching the Indiana Jones show, and eating yummy food.  It was a pretty great day for sure!

I LOVE this pic taken on Rockin Rollercoaster!

These guys have been buddies for 16 years now.
I love how much their friendship means to Dallas.
I love that our families have such a great time together and can keep that friendship going.
We love the Stoker family!

Magic Kingdom with the Stoker Family (January 2016)

One of the awesome benefits of being Disney World annual pass holders is when you get a last minute phone call from your besties living in north Florida, you can easily hop in your car and meet them in Orlando in no time.
We were so excited to get a call from Robbie and Kate asking us to join them at Disney for the weekend.  We love them so much and love any excuse to see them when at all possible.  Dallas and Robbie served a mission together many years ago and have been great friends ever since.  The best part, though, is that I absolutely adore Robbie's wife, Kate, and Daxton loves their boys, Tommy and Drue.  Such a great family!

We were also able to snap one in front of the train.

I have to admit that we have been pretty spoiled with the weather in Florida, so when cold temperatures actually roll in, we can hardly handle it!  The temps this weekend dropped into the high 40s and low 50s and we were legitimately COLD!  Kate was amazing, as usual, and brought gloves, hand warmers, scarves, and even quilts for us to use at the parks.  Basically she saved us!

When we got to the park we all got free "Family Reunion" pins which we thought were pretty perfect for our weekend together.
Here are some of the highlights from our day at Magic Kingdom together...

Hanging out in front of the castle to catch the show.

Nothing's better than hugs and snuggles from daddy!

These two absolutely melt my heart!

The kids loved watching all their favorite characters perform.

The boys miraculously spun to their hearts content on the tea cups and somehow no one threw up.

Our whole crazy group!

Having a blast on "It's A Small World"
While everyone else rode Thunder Mountain Railroad, I cuddled up under two different quilts to try and stay warm...I know...it was quite pathetic.

One of our absolute favorites...
riding on Seven Dwarves Mine Train!

It was such a great day with the Stoker family.  Disney is pretty magical, but Disney with friends is even better!

Day to Day in January (2016)

I figure maybe someday I will get caught up on this blog, so I'll slowly plug away...I've realized it's actually a lot of fun to look back on so many fun memories, so playing catch up is just fine :)

Here are some of the highlights from January 2016...

With the new year brought a big change for Daxton at church; He moved up from nursery to primary!  He was pretty excited to join the big kids until he found out there weren't any toys or snack time and that he had to sit in a seat and listen.

The big boy before church

First time in primary as a Sunbeam!!

He was so excited to do the activity "Hold to the Rod" with the big kids.  It helped his adjustment to have mommy in the primary with him.  I've loved the opportunity to watch him grow and learn in the Gospel.  He's such a sweet boy and I love hearing all the many questions he has.

Other highlights from January...
On a frustrating note, there were some big storms that came through in January and we quickly found out that our roof that we thought we had fixed in the summer, still had a leak...a rather large leak.  After lots of soaked towels and a few dollars later, our leak was finally fixed...again.

Some fun things from our day to day...
Daxton playing with his HUGE overhaul from going to Disney World with his grandparents

Laundry, swim lessons, grocery shopping, stickers, and playing with tools

The most exciting thing was this...
Daxton got his very own letter from Grandpa and Grandma!
He could not contain his excitement when he looked in the mailbox and saw his name on the envelope.

We also enjoyed a fun playdate at the park with his buddies, Olive and Emily.

Daxton also worked really hard on his schoolwork.  He started practicing tracing and letter work.  I love his super concentrated look and furrowed brows in the bottom right pic.

To top off January, we spent a really fun day at the Zoo in Miami with our buddies, Monica, Emily, and Arianne.  We rented a surrey bike and somehow all squeezed on, including our strollers on the roof!

The kids loved riding in the front, except for Daxton who absolutely refused because he was a "big boy now."  He was pretty proud that he got to sit on the big person seat even though his legs couldn't stretch to the pedals.

Our favorite was definitely the giraffe feeding.
The kids took turns feeding them lettuce by hand and they all loved every minute of it!

Group Giraffe picture

More zoo fun...
lizards, snakes, and lots of Koi fish

Everyone also loved climbing on all the different sculptures and toys.  They also loved watching the spotted eagle ray.

These three best little buddies melt my heart!
Daxton has been so blessed with the most amazing friends...
me too.
January 2016 was definitely a pretty good month!
