6 Months Old

Daxton's 6 month birthday was September 27th, but I was waiting to write this post until we had his doctor's appointment to share his growth stats.  We met with the doctor today and I was kindof shocked to hear that he was in the 25% for his weight at 16lbs 8oz.  He had only gained an ounce from last month's visit, so both the Doctor and myself are concerned about his growth.  I made a comment about how everyone says what a big boy he is, so how can his weight be so low, to which the doctor replied, "I'm pretty sure he's carrying all his weight in his cheeks."  I couldn't help but laugh.  My boy's got some seriously yummy cheeks!  He recommended that I supplement my breast feeding with formula and then bump up the solids to two-three times a day.  I have countless friends and several family members that have had to supplement in order to help chunk up their babies, but I couldn't help but feel a bit inadequate once again in my mommy duties.  I'm sad that I'm not providing enough for my little guy and I just pray that I can make up for that in other areas.  The other problem, that I mentioned in a previous post, is that he is refusing to take any bottle or pacifier lately.  He will go hours without eating instead of taking a bottle of formula...this new transition is going to be interesting to say the least.
On a happier note, I am loving what this new stage is bringing.
Little Daxton is such a happy boy, as you can tell from the above picture.  He is constantly giggling and smiling, especially when I sing to him and when daddy walks in the door.  He is rolling over and reaching for toys and he is VERY aware of his surroundings.  He adores other children, especially his cousins and will spend hours just watching them.  He is also super sweet with strangers.  On our flight to Chicago, he was a hit, smiling at the other passengers and stewardesses as they passed.  I also love that he will gladly be held by others.  He LOVED all the one on one time with grandma and grandpa while in Illinois (to the point that he didn't even want to come back to me) and will snuggle up to just about anyone who gives him attention.
But mostly I love how he knows me.
He knows that I'm his mommy, that I adore him and would do anything for him, and better yet, the feeling is mutual.

  1. It was a cold and devastating day when the doctor told me that my baby was allergic to my breast milk and I would have to stop completely. So I know what you are going through! What a failure I felt like! But now she is happy, healthy and loves me all the same. As will Daxton! Hooray for babies!

  2. You are doing a great job as a mom! Good luck with the bottle/paci strike. My youngest was very much like that, and we just had to have a sit in one night...LOL It took him several hours before he was finally hungry enough to take that bottle, but in the end, we got him to take it! Sadly, there was no going back for him, so I had to wean him early....but that doesn't mean that will happen for you. You can do it! Good luck!
